Kent Road station

The Kent Road station was a stop on the Danbury Branch of the Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line. It was located on the border between Wilton and Norwalk, from Grand Central Terminal, south of a grade crossing with Kent Road.

History

Original station

The original station on this site was located on the north side of Kent Road and was known as Kent. Kent was opened in 1852 along the Danbury and Norwalk Railroad. The name of the station was changed to South Wilton when the railroad was leased by the Housatonic Railroad in 1886, possibly to distinguish it from the station in the town of Kent. The station was also known as Kent Road and Hopkins.
The station was closed and demolished at some point prior to 1971.

Replacement station

The station was replaced on January 12, 1976, when a new station was opened on the south side of Kent Road by Penn Central to serve Perkin-Elmer's headquarters in Wilton.
Metro-North Railroad discontinued service here on January 16, 1994. It is notable for being the last station on the New Haven Line to be abandoned, and the only one closed during the Metro-North era.

Station layout

Kent Road station consisted of a low-level platform and a small shelter. After the station closed in 1994, all station structures were removed.
