Malaysia at the 2014 Asian Games


Malaysia participated in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea from 19 September to 4 October 2014. Although Malaysia's performance is generally satisfactory, it was tarnished by the disqualification of Tai Cheau Xuen gold medal for wushu event due to doping scandal and the misbehaviour of its' athletes such as smoking and causing damage to property. The latter resulted in Malaysia being fined RM143,000 by the organiser. Malaysia's achievement of 5 golds was 3 short of its 8 golds medal target. However, some achievements were made by the nation such as winning the first medal in the Archery event in Asian Games history.

Media coverage

Malaysian satellite television provider Astro and Media Prima Group private broadcasters TV3 and TV9 held the broadcast rights of the 2014 Asian Games in the country. The latter two replaced Radio Televisyen Malaysia as the free-to-air right holders for the event, the only such case in 2010's decade Malaysian sports telecast, as Radio Televisyen Malaysia would later return to hold the free-to-air broadcast rights in 2018.
