Mark Chiarello


Mark Chiarello is an American illustrator, art director and comic book editor.

Career

As an illustrator, Chiarello has worked on such projects as the Batman story and Clive Barker's Hellraiser. He was also the first colorist on Mike Mignola's creator owned comic book, Hellboy.
As an editor for DC Comics, he created the critically acclaimed series Batman Black and White, Solo, and Wednesday Comics. Chiarello was responsible for teaming up comics superstars Jim Lee and Jeph Loeb for their extremely successful run on the Batman series "". Previously, Chiarello worked at Marvel Comics where he was assistant to Archie Goodwin.
Chiarello's work was seen in Star Wars: The New Essential Chronology alongside artists Tommy Lee Edwards and John Van Fleet. He also co-authored the book The DC Comics Guide to Coloring and Lettering Comics with Eisner Award winning letterer, Todd Klein. He also drew a Samurai Jack story for DC's Cartoon Network Action Pack #1.
In 2007 Chiarello and Jack Morelli authored "Heroes of the Negro Leagues," from Abrams Publishing, a book on the history of the Negro Leagues. An article and interview featuring Chiarello's Negro League paintings appeared in the March 8' issue of Juxtapoz Magazine.
In 2009 Chiarello painted the Spring Summer 09 advertising campaign for Carhartt.
In 2012 he was the editor of the Before Watchmen comics Dr. Manhattan, Minute Men, Silk Spectre, Moloch, and Dollar Bill.
In 2019, Chiarello was let go from DC after working for them for 26 years.
Chiarello has also illustrated the cover for the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD of Charlie Chaplin's The Circus, to be released in The Criterion Collection on September 24, 2019.
