Mark Gerard Price is an English drummer, who is known for being the first full-time drummer for All About Eve, Nik Kershaw’s drummer from 1984 until 1987,and the drummer of Del Amitri between 1997 and 2002. His first son Joe is also the nephew of All About Eve's leader Julianne Regan. He married Jude Price, formally Ollerhead, in 2001 and since then has had two more children, Maddie Mae and Isaac John Wilfrid. He currently plays in a local covers band called Imp.
Early life
Mark Price lived in Nelson, Lancashire and attended Walton High School, Burnley College of Art, and Manchester Polytechnic. Mark started playing drums at 14 playing with his school friends, they formed their first band “Exodus” and played in local Northern working men’s clubs at weekends at the age of 15. After graduating at Manchester Polytechnic in Graphic Design, he moved to London in 1980. Seeking a career in music was the aim and London was the place he needed to be.
Career
All About Eve
Price was recruited to All About Eve in 1987, during the recording of their first album. He therefore appeared on the album cover even though he did not play on all of the songs, which instead featured the Mission'sMick Brown. He did, however, become the mainstay drummer of the band, featuring on all the band's albums up to Ultraviolet. Even when Julianne Regan left the band in 1993, he briefly carried on with Marty Willson-Piper and Andy Cousin to create the one-off album Seeing Stars.
Mice
Price played all the drum tracks on the album Because I Can, but never performed live with them.
The Cure
Following the departure of drummer Boris Williams, Price played on "Mint Car", Trap and Treasure on The Cure's Wild Mood Swings album, also on “A pink dream,” a ‘b’ side. Another drummer, Jason Cooper, was ultimately chosen as Boris's permanent replacement.
Del Amitri
In 1997, Price joined Del Amitri. He toured extensively with them and appears on the 2002 album Can You Do Me Good? and the Top 40hit singles "Don't Come Home Too Soon", "Cry To Be Found" and "Just Before You Leave".
Price's career took off originally towards the end of 1983 when he auditioned for the then up and coming Nik Kershaw. He toured the world with Kershaw for the next four years, the high point was Live Aid in 1985.
