Nature's Beckon


Nature's Beckon is an environmental activist group from Northeast India. It was established in 1982 by Soumyadeep Datta, an Ashoka Fellow and got registration in 1991 under the Registrar of Societies Act, India. Its head office is located at Dhubri, Assam. Since its inception, the organization has been doing some wonderful jobs in the field of conservation of wildlife, awareness creation, environmental education, scientific research and documentation, and socioeconomic development for the rural masses of the northeastern part of India.

"The mission of Nature's Beckon is working with the people to conserve, protect and increase wildlife, plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the people of India."

Achievements

Nature's Beckon has discovered the golden langur in the forest of Chakrashila Hills Reserve of Dhubri District. This has been recorded in Zoologocial Survey of India Archives. In fact, Nature's Beckon played a lead role in raising the status of Chakrashila to a Wildlife Sanctuary. Apart from golden langur, the activist group has successfully identified and conserved many endangered species of animals and birds in the forest and wetlands of the North East India. The organization was instrumental in the declaration of a number of biodiversity rich areas into Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park. The NGO undertook the first and only Rainforest Conservation Movement of Assam which finally led to the declaration of the-Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary which is a wildlife Sanctuary in the Dibrugarh Tinsukia District of Assam,India. As a part of this movement,the organization also conducted the first baselines survey of the lowland rainforests and other protected-unprotected biodiversirty rich areas of Assam. It also organzied the first rainforest festival of Assam Apart from this,the organization has trained thousands of youth in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh who has been actively working for conservation. The NGO has also been instrumental in the declaration of Wildlife Sanctuaries such as Chakrashila WIldlife Sanctuary,Panidehing Wildlife Sanctuary,etc. The NGO is currently working for the declaration of other hotspot rich areas like Poba,Ajagar Hills,etc into Wildlife Sanctuary. Nature's Beckon also started the concept of Village Sanctuary in Assam. The organization regularly indulges and organizes Nature Camps,BirdWatching Sessions,Mobile Exhibitions,Jungle Trekking. The work of Nature's Beckon has been recognized by local,National and International bodies Like Bombay Natural History Society,Ashoka,United Nation's,etc
