Nyck de Vries
Nyck de Vries is a Dutch racing driver currently competing in 2019-20 Formula E season for Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team and the 2019-20 FIA World Endurance Championship season for Racing Team Nederland in the LMP2 class. He won the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship as well as the 2010 and 2011 Karting World Championships and in 2014 the Formula Renault 2.0 Alps and Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup Championships. He was signed to the McLaren young driver programme from January 2010 until May 2019 and Audi Sport racing academy from October 2016 until August 2019. In 2019 he won the FIA Formula 2 World Championship.
Career
In 2008 De Vries won the WSK World Series for the KF3 category, as well as the German Junior Championship. In 2009 he retained both his German Junior and WSK World Series titles, as well as winning the European KF3 Championship. De Vries was signed by McLaren in January 2010. In September he won the 2010 Karting World Championship. He also won the World Championship in 2011. In 2012 and 2013 he has raced in Formula Renault 20, he raced in 2014 the Formula Renault 2.0 Alps and Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup Championships. For the 2015 season, De Vries decided to race in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series placing third overall. Making the jump to GP3 for 2016 De Vries raced with ART before moving up to Formula 2 in 2017. Since joining Formula 2, he has raced with 4 teams, with a best result of 4th overall in 2018.De Vries was signed to the McLaren Young Driver Programme in 2010, and the Audi Sport Racing Academy in 2016, leaving the McLaren Young Driver Programme in 2019 to focus on his duties at Audi until September 2019.
On 11 September 2019, De Vries was announced as a driver for the new Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team for the 2019–20 Formula E season alongside Stoffel Vandoorne.
On 28 September 2019, he won the Russian F2 feature race to take the 2019 Formula 2 Championship driver's title.
De Vries appeared as himself in two episodes of McLaren's animated series Tooned.
On 6 July 2020, De Vries was announced as the Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe GmbH test and reserve driver. His roles include testing the Toyota TS050 Hybrid and Toyota's hypercar.
