Border dispute

Among the most sensitive areas of the Moldova–Ukraine relations is the crossing point at Palanca. There is a need to complete the demarcation process, to deliver on the Republic of Moldova's commitment to transfer to Ukraine not only the asphalt, but also the real property under 7.7 kilometers of road, and to clarify the sovereignty of that land, which under the Treaty of 2001, should be transferred into the property of Ukraine. In 2010 Deputy Foreign Minister of Moldova Andrei Popov has stated that land in Palanca is an inseparable part of the Moldovan territory, so it shall not be ceded to Ukraine.
On November 22, 2012 the ambassador of Moldova to Ukraine announced that according to the reached agreement, Moldova transferred the section of the road by Palanca to become the property of Ukraine within the territory of Moldova, and this section will be controlled by Ukraine.
