Pamela Hanson


Born in London, Pamela Hanson is an American photographer and filmmaker. She is one of the first female photographers to succeed in the fashion industry. Her unique bond with her subjects has allowed her to capture images for fashion editorial and advertising campaigns for over 30 years. She has worked throughout the world and published three books. She is currently based in New York.

Early Life

Pamela Hanson was born in London and was raised in Geneva. She attended the American School in Lugano, Switzerland and later moved to the United States to pursue a degree in fine arts at the University of Colorado. After moving to Paris, she captured intimate portraits of friends which lead her to a career in photography.

Work

Hanson is well known for her fashion and lifestyle photography. She works regularly for Vogue, Glamour, Worldwide, and Cargo. Her photographs have appeared in Marie Claire, 'Vogue', Glamour, Vanity Fair, InStyle, GQ, Allure, D Magazine, Elle, Nylon, and Jane.
Her advertising clients include: Dior, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Joseph, L'Oreal, Lancôme, Lancaster, Maybelline, Halston, Giorgio, Keds, Max Mara, Emporio Armani, Charlotte Ronson, Ann Taylor, Avon Products, Biotherm, Redbook, Coach, Pantene, Victoria's Secret, Joseph and Les Copains, Keds, Halston, Emporio Armani, among others.
Her photographs have been sold to raise money for charities and many organizations within the United States.
In June 2009, one of Hanson's ten nude photographs of Carla Bruni shot in 1994 was sold to an anonymous buyer for $19,600 at the spring auction at the Villa Grisebach Auktionen in Berlin.

Books

In 2001, Hanson released Girls, a photography book in both color and black & white with pages of her personal and professional work.
In spring 2006, Hanson released Boys, which contains images of boys at all ages, as a companion to Girls.
In February 2017, Hanson released Private Room, a photography book with a series of photographs of eight different women photographed at the Lafayette House in New York City.

Commercials and Film

Hanson has also directed numerous television commercials for clients including: Mercedes-Benz, Charlotte Ronson, L'Oreal,Lubriderm, Andre Shoes, Stride Rite Shoes, Chantell, Nivea and Nouveau.
In June 2003, she directed a series of television spots to raise funds for finding a Juvenile Diabetes cure.

Exhibitions

Hanson's photographs were on display at the Aperture Gallery in Fall 2008, and they were sold at the Aperture Foundation’s Annual Benefit & Auction.
Hanson is represented by New York gallery Staley-Wise. Her photographs were part of their exhibition "Women Seeing Women".
