Popeye Doyle (film)


Popeye Doyle is an American 1986 television film starring Ed O'Neill.
It was based on the character who Gene Hackman won the Academy Award for Best Actor for portraying in the film The French Connection. The character is based on a real-life New York City police detective, Eddie Egan, who also appeared in The French Connection as Walt Simonson, Doyle's supervisor.

Premise

New York City police Detective Popeye Doyle investigates the case of a murdered model, which leads him on the trail of a gang of terrorists and a drug cartel of international smugglers.
