Porsche-Piëch family


The Porsche-Piëch family is a prominent Austrian-German family of industrialists descending from the automotive pioneer Ferdinand Porsche. Its members have full control of the Porsche SE automobile company and majority voting rights over Volkswagen AG, the biggest automaker in the world. Currently the family members hold Austrian citizenship and are residents of Austria. The Porsche-Piech family headquarters are in the Austrian town of Zell am See.

Founder

Ferdinand Porsche was born to a German-speaking family of Maffersdorf, Bohemia, son of Anton Porsche and Anna Ehrlich.

Porsche name

The Sudeten German surname Porsche can be traced to the 18th century in the area of Reichenberg, Bohemia.
The surname originates with the German word :wikt:Bursche|Bursche and is on record in northern Bohemia in various spellings from the early 17th century.

Piëch name

The Slavic surname Piëch came from Poland, spreading to Germany and Czechoslovakia. It originated as a vernacular diminutive of "Peter". There are several other spellings.
