Tahir Hussain Mashhadi


Col Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi was a Lt Colonel in the Pakistan Army.

Military career

Tahir Mashhadi joined the Pakistan Army in 1970 during the war with India and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1971, graduating from the Pakistan Military Academy's 30th short course. He has earned a B.Sc from PMA and also completed PSC with flying colours.
During the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, Mashhadi was stationed in then East Pakistan at Decca Airport t which saw some heaviest air attacks & India lost a number of aircraft to 6 Lt Air Defence Regiment. At the end of war, Mashadi was taken prisoner of war and repatriated in 1974.

Political career

Tahir Mashhadi has not only served the country while fighting on the battlefields but is also a publicly elected representative in the Senate of Pakistan and City administration. He is an active member of public committees and held chairmanship of Standing Committee on Rules of Procedures and Privileges. Below are the member committees.
Tahir Mashhadi is a member of Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
According to the Senate Performance assessment in 2016, Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Colonel Tahir Hussein Mashhadi achieved the highest 95 percent in PILDAT’s Scorecard of Senators Performance during the 13th Parliamentary Year of Senate from March 12, 2015 – March 11, 2016. Pildat is a think tank that focuses on political and public policy research and legislative strengthening. he was declared Senator of the Year recognition on his outstanding performance as a Senator of Pakistan.

Senator Mashhadi is married with three sons and two daughters. He has visited US, Canada, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Russia, Thailand, UAE, Qatar, Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Azerbaijan and Turkey. His hobbies are debating, reading and traveling.
