Thanos Plevris


Athanasios Plevris is a Greek member of parliament and son of Greek author Konstantinos Plevris. He was elected into office in the 2007 parliamentary election with the Popular Orthodox Rally party.
Plevris practices law in Athens, having completed post-graduate study in Heidelberg University, and earned a doctorate from the University of Athens. He completed his military service as a sergeant in the 32nd Marines Brigade.
In June 2009 Plevris was elected as MEP and was replaced in the Greek parliament by but returned to the Greek parliament again after the 2009 Greek legislative election. He is currently an MP with New Democracy.
In 2011, Plevris gave an interview at an event organised by the newspaper Patria, during which he claimed that an effective solution to the immigration crisis would encompass the use of deadly force on those trying to cross Greek borders. He further claimed that immigrants should be denied access to food, water and healthcare, until they realise that conditions in Greece are worse than those in their homelands. He became a member of New Democracy in May 2012.
