Presidency of Harry S. Truman

March 31, 1968 – Incumbent President Lyndon B. Johnson announces to the nation on television that he will not seek re-election for the Election of 1968, Opposition toward him and the Democratic Party was growing. The escalation of Vietnam was one of these issues.
