Tinton Falls School District


The Tinton Falls School District is a regional elementary school district in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States, serving students in kindergarten through eighth grades. Students from Tinton Falls are a majority of the district's enrollment, together with students from the neighboring community of Shrewsbury Township and the dependent children of military families based at Naval Weapons Station Earle.
As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprising three schools, had an enrollment of 1,447 students and 150.1 classroom teachers, for a student–teacher ratio of 9.6:1.
The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "GH", the third-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.
Students in public school for ninth through twelfth grades attend Monmouth Regional High School, located in Tinton Falls. The school also serves students from Eatontown and Naval Weapons Station Earle. As of the 2018–19 school year, the high school had an enrollment of 972 students and 91.0 classroom teachers, for a student–teacher ratio of 10.7:1.
Students may also apply to attend one of the magnet schools in the Monmouth County Vocational School DistrictMarine Academy of Science and Technology, Academy of Allied Health & Science, High Technology High School, Biotechnology High School, and Communications High School.

Awards and recognition

In 2004, Mahala F. Atchison School was designated as a Governor's School of Excellence. Tinton Falls Middle School earned that designation in 2005. Additionally all three schools have won numerous Best Practices awards.

The district's board of education, with nine members, sets policy and oversees the fiscal and educational operation of the district through its administration. As a Type II school district, the board's trustees are elected directly by voters to serve three-year terms of office on a staggered basis, with three seats up for election each year held as part of the November general election. Seats on the school board are allocated based on the populations of the two constituent municipalities, with eight allocated to Tinton Falls and one to Shrewsbury Township.
