Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007

Turkey took part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with Kenan Doğulu with the song "Shake It Up Şekerim".

Before Eurovision

Internal selection

On December 2006, TRT announced Kenan Doğulu as the Turkish entrant at the Eurovision Song Contest 2007.
Doğulu submitted three songs to TRT as promised. The members of the selection committee, together with Doğulu decided for "Shake It Up Şekerim", a cheerful uptempo song. Doğulu said that he made several songs, including 7-8 which he loved a lot: "It was very difficult to shorten the list to three songs. We have chosen a cheerful up-tempo song. May it bring us luck".
After some changes to the song, the song was made public on 9 March 2007.

Promotion

Doğulu toured several countries in order to drum up support for his Eurovision entry including some countries who are known for not voting for Turkey that often. These countries include Russia, Cyprus, Estonia and some others.

At Eurovision

Because Turkey placed 11th at the 2006 contest, country was forced to compete in the Eurovision semi-final, Turkey performed 26th in the running order, following Slovenia and preceding Austria. Kenan qualified from 3rd place with 198 points. In the final he performed 22nd in running order following Bulgaria and preceding Armenia. At the close of voting "Shake It Up Şekerim" had received 163 points placing Turkey 4th of the 24 entries. With changes to the format of the competition coming into effect for 2008, Turkey had to compete in one of two semi-finals for qualification into the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2008. As Turkey was not the winner of the 2007 contest and was not a member of the Big Four, other results in the previous contest no longer pre-qualified nations to the final of the forthcoming contest.
