Wansbeck Road Metro station

Wansbeck Road is a station on the Tyne and Wear Metro, serving Coxlodge, Gosforth and Fawdon in Newcastle upon Tyne. The station joined the network in May 1981, following the opening of the line between South Gosforth and Bank Foot.
The line opened in June 1905, as part of the Ponteland and Darras Hall branch of the Blyth and Tyne Railway. Wansbeck Road is situated between the former Coxlodge and West Gosforth stations. The line closed to passengers in June 1929, with Coxlodge and West Gosforth stations closing to goods in November 1965 and August 1967 respectively.
Wansbeck Road is built on an embankment above Wansbeck Road, with platforms located on opposite sides of the road. A second concrete span was added to the original single-track bridge in the late 1970s, during the construction of the Tyne and Wear Metro.
The station is also located near to the point where the Ponteland and Darras Hall branch crossed over the former Fawdon Wagonway, which operated between 1818 and 1826.
In 2018, the station, along with others on the Airport branch, were refurbished as part of the Metro: All Change programme. The project saw improvements to accessibility, security and energy efficiency, as well as the re-branding of the station to the new black and white corporate colour scheme.
The station was used by 166,282 passengers in 2017–18, making it the sixth-least-used station on the network.
