Yuri Garnaev


Yuri Alexandrovich Garnaev was a famous test pilot in the Soviet Union.

Biography

Yuri Alexandrovich Garnaev spent his childhood and youth in the town of Balashov, Saratov Oblast, Russia.
He made a series of high-speed ejection seat test and parachute test jumps in 1951.
Then he started his test pilot career in 1951, working for the LII.
Made numerous series flights by Soviet VTOL program and Yakovlev Yak-36 testing.
Awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union in 1964.
Yuri Garnaev perished in a Mi-6PZh helicopter crash in Le Rove, France, while fighting extensive wildfires.
